    Hot Pets

Literally, the pets at the Humane Society of Greater Miami, North Miami facility are hot. The air conditioning system broke down this week and needs to be replaced - to the tune of $85,000! It takes a lot of air to cool 200 furry friends ... and no doubt the employees and volunteers could use some a/c too.

We've had a fantastic response to our requests for assistance - including a $10,000 donation from the Gloria Estefan Foundation (bless you, Joyce for getting the word to Gloria) - but The Humane Society still needs another $15,000 to move forward installing a replacement unit.

I figure if just 15,000 people donate one dollar each, it's a breeze. Or if you and your co-workers each pitch in five bucks (and ask the boss to match your donation), we'll reach goal before the weekend's over.

You can donate online at the Humane Society's site, or call the LITE FM studios anytime this weekend and we'll take your pledge on the phone: 1-800-469-1015. Of course, you can always stop by The Humane Society at 16101 W. Dixie Highway (just south of 163rd street, North Miami Beach) to donate in person, or foster a dog or cat until the air is installed, or go ahead and adopt a life-long friend!

Thanks again to everyone who's helped out - we live in a wonderful, caring community!
