    Childbirth without the epidural?

Ask any mother, she'll probably tell you that having a baby was the greatest thing that ever happened to her. And most moms don't even remember the labor pains once they see those little eyes and that little smile shining up at them. Of course, the epidural can also help with the labor pains.

But many women now are finding that they can deal with labor pains without the epidural or other medication by using natural methods and the help of a midwife. Nope, there's nothing medieval about midwives. They have to be trained in their field just like any other expert.

Actress and talk show host Rikki Lake went through the labor experience both ways - traditionally in a hospital for her first child; and in water (yes, water), with the help of a midwife for her second child. She documented the experience and it's now in a film called "The Business of Being Born".

The Women and Children's Healthcare Access Fund is hosting 2 benefit screenings of the film, Friday, February 1st and Saturday, February 2nd, at the Tower Theatre in Miami (1508 S.W. 8th Street).

I've seen some previews of the film at the official website, http://www.thebusinessofbeingborn.com/ and it looks fascinating, so I'm going Saturday night. Of course, the fact that the screenings benefit The Uninsured Women's Healthcare Project and the Miami Dade College Midwifery Student Scholarship Fund makes it even better.

Admission is FREE for Midwifery Students and Pregnant women!
